The Department of Curriculum, Foundations, and Reading in the College of Education invites
nominations and applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Curriculum
Studies.
Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Foundations,
and Reading, the Assistant/Associate Professor of Curriculum Studies will be responsible for
teaching graduate courses in Curriculum Studies (e.g., Philosophy and History of Education,
Theories of Educational Inquiry, Power and Schooling, Curriculum Theory, Multicultural
Education, Forms of Curriculum Inquiry) and undergraduate courses in Educational
Foundations, advising graduate students, directing doctoral dissertations, producing
scholarship in the discipline, and providing service to the University and the profession.
Online instruction will be required in addition to traditional delivery of instruction. The
position is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Curriculum Studies, Social Foundations, or closely related area
by August 1, 2009
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate students
• Ability to teach graduate courses on- and off-campus and online
• Ability to advise graduate students and direct doctoral dissertations
• Emerging, or established record of, research and scholarly publications in the
discipline
• Demonstrated record of, or demonstrated potential for, securing extramural funding
for research and/or training
• K-12 teaching experience or equivalent experience
• Ability to work with diverse student populations
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department, college, and
university
• Effective communication skills
• Minimum of 4 years college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor
level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of
research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.
Preferred Qualifications:
• College/university full-time teaching experience at the graduate level
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity in curriculum studies and
social foundations
• Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology in teaching
• Experience conducting research in K-12 settings
• Experience in coordinating a graduate program
