BJUSMBA/COL/131008/03 -- This London-based hospital provides services for approximately half a million people and is seeking an experienced sonographer to join their team. The successful candidate will be experienced with obstetrics and gynaecology and will be a well organised and motivated individual.

Responsibilities:
• To provide a high quality ultrasound service with comprehensive independent written reports.
• Communicate highly complex information regarding diagnosis /treatment directly with Clinicians and patients within a multi-disciplinary team.
• To independently prioritise patients and organise workload from a variety of referral pathways to meet the needs of the service.
• Provide expert opinion/advice and contribute to the management of the ultrasound department.
• Participate in and undertake clinical research/audit/CPD.
• To provide expert specialist skills, knowledge, training and support as the more experienced practitioner in the department in general abdominal and small part ultrasound.
• To independently undertake and report on a wide range of ultrasound examinations (including in-patients) using a high level of specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidelines where applicable.
• To possess a high level of specialist knowledge over a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
• To use analytical and judgemental skills to interpret highly complex images, accurately differentiating between normal and pathological findings.
• To advise, both verbally and via the report to referring clinicians directly when a delay may have a direct impact on morbidity and mortality.
• To be aware of the importance of other diagnostic investigations and to make recommendations for other imaging modalities, further scans, clinical assessment and referral both verbally and via the report.
• To have a clinical lead role as a sonographer in general abdominal, small parts, and antenatal scanning.
• To develop where possible, the less experienced sonographers skills in these areas and produce the current protocols for these examinations.
• To perform highly specialised scans with in-depth expertise to level of Senior Clinicians.
• To ensure that an accurate and detailed report is loaded onto the CRIS system and ensure all images are correctly sent and archived.
• To maintain dignity and confidentiality whilst frequently undertake examinations of an intimate and often highly unpleasant nature, where there is a high risk of exposure to bodily fluids.
• To assist with day to day running the sonography led ultrasound service.
• To prioritise patients including wards and urgent requests independently and to organise workload from a wide variety of referral pathways.
• To evaluate the appropriateness of imaging requests and determine patient preparation.
• To take responsibility when necessary in the absence of the Superintendent Sonographer.
• To be able to work within a pressurised environment and manage unpredictable workloads and patient demands.


Requirements:

• B.Sc. in Radiography or equivalent.
• Postgraduate qualification in Ultrasound.
• Ideally 3 year’s postgraduate experience in a wide variety of ultrasound examinations.
