Senior Occupational Therapist (Dublin, Ireland)
 

BJUSBM/COL/241108/01 -- A Senior Occupational Therapist, preferably with experience in the Community or with Care of the Elderly is sought to work with the Occupational Therapy Manager in co-coordinating services to meet the needs of service-users and the objectives of the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of a high quality person-centred service. Key responsibilities include assessing people who may have a wide range of disabilities and complex needs and planning, designing and implementing interventions and monitoring and evaluating these interventions.

Responsibilities:
• Be responsible for managing own case load including assessment, planning, implementation and review of treatment/intervention programmes for service users according to service standards.
• Be responsible for the maintenance of standards of practice of self and staff in the designated area if appropriate.
• Foster and maintain working relationships with colleagues, front line managers and other healthcare personnel on the team.
• Act as an advocate on behalf of the service user where appropriate by supporting meaningful participation in their life roles; providing support, education and advice.
• Organise and maintain accurate and timely records. Document all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in accordance with local service and professional standards.
• Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments and/or interventions and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
• Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
• Attend review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, clinics etc. as designated by Occupational Therapist Manager.
• Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for the development and maintenance of standards/strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.
• Seek advice and assistance from his/her manager with any assigned cases or duties in line with principles of evidence based practice and clinical governance.
• Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
• Participate in continuing professional development including in-service training, attending and presenting at conferences/courses relevant to practice, promoting and contributing to research etc. as agreed with the Occupational Therapist Manager.
• Engage in support/supervision with peer Senior Occupational Therapists and the Occupational Therapist Manager and participate in performance review.
• Participate in the practice education of student therapists. Actively participate in teaching /training/supervision of other Occupational Therapy and non-Occupational Therapy staff /students and attend practice educator courses as appropriate.
• Actively participate in risk management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action.
• Review and allocate resources within the designated area in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager.
• Promote quality by reviewing and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service regularly, identifying changing needs and opportunities to improve services, in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager.
• Develop and implement service/business plans, quality initiatives, audits etc. and report on outcomes in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist Manager.
• Assist in the organisation, maintenance and / or ordering of equipment and materials used in assessment and treatment.
• Engage in IT developments as they apply to service user and service administration.
• Keep up to date with developments within the organisation and the Irish Health Service.


Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science honours degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
• Ideally at least three years satisfactory post qualification experience.
• Car owner and clean driving licence
