BJUSMBA/COL/291008/01 -- This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Radiotherapist to take control of the running of services in a state-of-the-art hospital and really grow their career. The successful candidate will be involved in treatment and treatment planning ensuring a high quality services is provided. Education and training of more junior colleagues will also be the responsibility of the post-holder. The ideal candidate for this role will also have an interest in research and will be committed to achieving high standards and quality of service.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate clinical reasoning and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of patients
• Demonstrate evidence based practice through decision making
• Follow current best practice guidelines.
• Ensure that the Radiotherapy service delivered to patients meets departmental standards of practice
• Provide advice and support to Radiotherapy colleagues on clinical practice issues
• Provide clinical leadership and instruction to students and junior colleagues
• Duties to effectively assist run rostered unit as support for the Clinical Specialist
• Be accountable own actions whilst in the work area
• Maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with departmental and hospital policies
• Conduct on treatment assessment of patients
• Assessment of pre-treatment images and approval of verification images
• Assessment of treatment plan
• Display empathy and understanding even when exposed to distressing or emotionally affecting situations
• Make judgment calls which require analysis, interpretation and comparison of data from a range of sources
• Ensure Clinical Specialist is informed of any issues relating to staff or patients
• Exhibit advanced physical skills including hand eye and sensory coordination and spatial awareness where fine detail is required and small margins for error exist
• Maintain concentration at an intense level for extended periods frequently
• Participate in the area of research
• Actively participate in projects/research/audits in clinical area
• Support colleagues in their service evaluation function
• Support Clinical Specialist in the review of radiotherapy best practice
• Act as an advisor and educational resource to students and more junior staff
• Facilitate the CPD of junior staff
• Participate in teaching other professionals and ancillary staff at qualification and post-qualification levels
• Keep abreast with current developments in clinical practice by attending seminars, conferences and post-graduate courses and complete all mandatory CPD requirements
• Liaise with clinical and academic staff of affiliate college and participate in the clinical training and assessment of Radiotherapy Students
• Build relationship with and mentor students within the department
• Participate in the appraisal and performance review programme as per departmental practice
• Participate in clinical audit activities to monitor clinical standards
• Ensure effective communication occurs with colleagues, professionals from other backgrounds and patients, carers, and members and the general public
• Communicate sensitive information sometimes in the presence of barriers to good communication
• Demonstrate an understanding of the workflow patterns within the Radiotherapy Department
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient and activity records which may be used in service evaluation
• Develop departmental work instructions, training guides and procedures
• Participate in the development of training systems and competencies
• Proposing policy or service changes affecting radiotherapy and linked departments
• Be aware of resource management in the use of consumables
• Senior Radiation Therapists may be required to deputise or act up for colleagues
• Ensure all HSE, Radiation Protection Institute or Ireland and Irish Institute of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists radiation standards are adhered to.
• Day to day supervision of junior staff in own area and participation in the appropriate employee selection process
• Set up and participate in clinical audit activities to monitor clinical standards
• Lead the Radiotherapy service within the clinical field
• Ensure effective communication occurs with colleagues, professionals from other backgrounds and patients, carers, and members and the general public
• Communicate information which is complex, sensitive or contentious and sometimes in the presence of barriers to good communication
• Serve on and advise such committees that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical speciality and be available to act as expert advisor
• Demonstrate a critical understanding of the wider context in which practice occurs e.g. social, political, inter-professional collaboration
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient and activity records which may be used in service evaluation
• Develop departmental work instructions, training guides and procedures
• Participate in the development of training systems and competencies
