BJUSMB/SD 0710234 -- This well established hospital is looking for a well-motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced ultrasonographer. There is a full time and a part-time position offering the chance to work in both the Obstetric and General Ultrasound Departments. A job share would be considered. The busy five roomed Obstetric Department carries out a wide range of obstetric techniques including the Nuchal Screening Programme and there is an attached Fetal Medicine Unit. The successful candidate will form part of a strong, hard working and highly motivated team. The department actively encourages and strongly promotes CPD. There is an established Nuchal screening programme complementing the combined tests for the detection of Downs syndrome in the first trimester. A network of specialist support is in place for women at high risk of foetal abnormality.
Responsibilities:
To provide an efficient and professional ultrasound service, maintaining a high standard of patient care.
Perform general and specialised ultrasound procedures according to Departmental and statutory regulations.
Assess and report on own specialist workload
Participate in service activity within specialised areas of working.
To provide staff training, supervision of ultrasound staff and students.
To communicate effectively in order to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Co-ordinate the day to day organisation of the assigned area of work.
Assess the quality of images and advise junior staff if required.
To be conversant with the department computer systems and ensure that accurate records are maintained
To participate in audit and quality control programmes.
To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients in working area, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment (Including Last Menstrual Period LMP checks and Intimate examinations such as Transvaginal scanning).
To maintain accurate and concise records of all imaging received by the patient and track x-rays effectively and efficiently using the appropriate computerised system.
To use and promote correct manual handling techniques to all staff in work area.
To be responsible for the safe use of Radiation and Ultrasound regarding Imaging safety guidelines within a specialist area including Intensive Care, Theatres and specialised units such as fertility and foetal medicine.
To be responsible for the care of equipment and accessories in the section in which the post-holder is working and to ensure that equipment used is cleaned, and kept in good order.
Requirements:
You will need to be HPC registered
BSc in Diagnostic Imaging or equivalent
To have a minimum of 3 years experience in Ultrasound.
Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or its equivalent
Able to scan and report independently on your findings
Up to date knowledge of current trends in Medical Ultrasound.
Able to perform a wide range of ultrasound techniques.
