Duties:
Performs editorial review of technical manuscripts to ensure compliance with good writing practice and conformance with established policies and guidelines. Reviews manuscripts for logic and clarity of expression, and rewrites phrases without changing original meaning.
Advises authors of methods for improving their documents, such as rearrangement of text and use of appropriate phraseology for intended audience. Provides advice to authors regarding matters such as grammar, pagination, references, reproduction, and distribution. Independently coordinates recommended changes with authors, exercising a high degree of judgment and tact in suggesting revisions. Edits illustrations and tables and recommends changes to improve clarity. Ensures that written materials are in conformance with prescribed formats and any special directions. Monitors and oversees the progress of the material through the publication process to facilitate final dissemination.

Researches, organizes, writes, edits, and produces technical data for major publication projects. Organizes material and writes descriptive copy according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style. May participate in the establishment of style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations. May provide work leadership for lower level employees.
Perform a variety of development, design, formatting, writing, and editing of military training and technical documents and manuals IAW established government formats.
Reviews manuscripts for logic and clarity of expression, and rewrites phrases without changing original meaning
Researches information about the product by interviewing subject-matter experts and using the product, including using the web to get background information.
Works directly with the customer to get and give the information needed; customer service.
Aligns with the goals, strategies, and objectives of the project and works to ensure they are met.
Assists in improving the documentation, including making recommendations on table of contents, structure/organization etc.
Becomes the "information expert" on the product over time, reducing time required of an SME.
Delivers every component according to schedule, and according to handoff specifications.
Attends internal and customer project and review meetings, as required
Ensures that all deliverables are reviewed by the designated QA person before the deliverables go to the client.
Performs quality checks on other writer's deliverables and ensures quality of his/her own work before handoff to customer or localization.
Manages hours according to the project budget. Keeps the Project Manager updated on the status of project hours on a frequent basis.
Resolves project issues effectively and successfully with internal and customer teams
Proactively informs the Project Manager about project status, issues or concerns.
Ensures his/her deliverable is written for localization and reviewed by localization at the designated time during the project.
Worked will be performed at Langley Air Force Base.

Required Qualifications:
Must have an active DoD SECRET Security Clearance to qualify.

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field. Requires 5 to 7 years experience in writing, designing, editing, and preparing business or technical documentation; desktop publishing, automated word processing and other digital information technology applications, particularly World Wide Web publishing. Experience with and demonstrated knowledge of federal government documentation standards as appropriate to the assignment. Must have excellent written communication skills.
